D’Alberto on home turf at Winton
Rod Nash Racing heads to Winton this weekend to contest three V8 Supercar races. Driver Tony D’Alberto has the “home ground” advantage with Winton also doubling as the team’s test track.
The Victorian circuit holds many fond memories for D’Alberto and he is keen to roll up his sleeves and produce fast laps in qualifying.
“The circuit has a bit of everything in it- slow corners, fast corners etc,” D’Alberto said, “It is a very hard place to pass other cars. Turn one and two would be my favourite part of the circuit, especially as you exit turn two the car gets nervous in the rear as you try and feed the power on.
“Last year I won the Development Series race meeting at Winton, but this weekend is going to be tough. I think because I have driven there before we can concentrate on looking for improvements in the car, rather than me learning the circuit. I feel pretty comfortable at Winton so I think that will be a bonus.”
D’Alberto will have to carry a strong focus into Winton to secure a good starting position on the grid, with the level of competition lifting with each round.
“The level of the competition has definitely risen,” D’Alberto said, “Qualifying at the last two rounds has been so close with half a second covering the whole field! Everyone is pushing to get results, but there will only ever be one winner!”
D’Alberto’s experience at Winton Raceway combined with the strength of the #55 Bottle-O Commodore sets the stage for Winton to be an unforgettable round. D’Alberto will get a chance to tour the circuit in practice this Friday from 12:35pm. Qualifying begins at 11:15am on Saturday with Race 1 following at 3:30pm. Races 2 and 3 are scheduled for Sunday.
