Dumbrell picks up the pace at Townsville Print

The Bottle-O Racing Team has charged to a finish in 10th at Townsville today after starting the race in 24th position. Dumbrell's climb through the field was the culmination of 72 laps of skilful driving and a spot-on strategy.

The team didn't have an easy start with qualifying proving to be a challenge.  Dumbrell managed 9 laps for the session with his fastest on lap 2 in a time of 1:14.2494 .  The lap  buried the car back in the field for a difficult race start from 24th.

Dumbrell turned his luck around on the opening lap of the race, making up 3 positions to reach 21st.  He continued to push every advantage, reaching 15th by lap 5 in an extraordinary show of pace.

The team completed their first pit stop on lap 21, changing rear tyres and taking on fuel. By lap 27 Dumbrell had inched his way to 11th with the top ten in reach.

On lap 45 the team performed their second pit stop, changing all 4 tyres and topping up fuel for the final stint of the race.  Dumbrell returned to the field with renewed strength, clocking his fastest lap of the race on lap 50 in a time of 1:14.3852.

The fresh tyres supported a further climb up the ranks and on lap 54 Dumbrell staked a claim on 9th position.  He dropped back slightly for a race finish in 10th, securing a fantastic result for the team.

"Qualifying didn't show the potential of the car so we were very confident in being able to move up." Dumbrell said. "The car was very strong and we were able to manoeuvre our way through a couple of laps and pick up positions.

"We had great car speed and then dropped off to a degree in the last couple of laps, but overall we have a good platform to build on for tomorrow."

Qualifying starts from 11am with Race 2 commencing from 1:35pm.
