The Bottle-O Racing Team secured a top result at Hidden Valley raceway this afternoon, with driver Paul Dumbrell keeping a tight grip near the front of the pack for a finish in 8th.
The team made an excellent start to the round and set a fast pace early in qualifying. Dumbrell managed to squeeze 11 laps into the qualifying session, clocking his fastest on lap 8 in a time of 1:10.1700. His qualifying lap awarded the team a ticket to the Top Ten Shootout. Dumbrell didn’t disappoint in the shootout and managed to put down a time that moved the car up the order by 2 positions for a race start in 8th.
Dumbrell turned heads with an exceptional start to Race 1, launching forward off the grid to claim 2 positions on the first lap. The #55 Bottle-O Falcon matched the pace of the frontrunners and Dumbrell easily held his ground in the opening laps. On lap 4 the car ran wide into a turn and Dumbrell dropped back to 9th in the order.
The team pitted on lap 12 for fuel and rear tyres, returning Dumbrell to the field with a mission to make up ground. He used the car’s pace to put pressure on the cars in front and by lap 19 had clawed his way to 7th.
Dumbrell dropped back slightly in the order as the laps peeled away, but kept a hold near the front in 9th. By lap 37 he was able to push forward to 8th, which he held to the close of the race.
Dumbrell was pleased with the result, but the Bottle-O Racing Team driver is already looking to what tomorrow’s race may bring.
"We had a reasonable race and tried to stay out of trouble and conserve our tyres.” Dumbrell said. “All in all I am pretty happy –We’ve just got to make a few improvements for tomorrow. It’s good to see that Frosty had the win so we can have a look at what they are doing and back it up tomorrow"
Qualifying starts from 12pm on Sunday and will be followed by a 200km race from 2:35pm.
