The Bottle-O Racing Team delivered a finish in 10th at Bahrain on Saturday after making a massive climb to overcome a starting position of 24th.
Lap 1 of the race was dogged by drama, with traffic piling up through turn 1. The resultant damage sidelined several competitors from the race, giving Dumbrell a chance to capitalise and move forward in the confusion. Dumbrell made up an incredible amount of ground, staking a claim on 16th position in the opening lap.
As racing continued the #55 Bottle-O Falcon proved to have plenty of pace and Dumbrell put it to good use, gaining 14th position by lap 6.
The team completed an early pit-stop on lap 8, re-joining the field towards the back. Dumbrell benefited as other drivers peeled away to complete their stops and by lap 18 the car had edged into 10th.
Dumbrell brought the car in for its second stop on lap 24 and the crew performed a good stop, returning the car to the race in 12th position. The car was still fighting fit in the latter stage of the race and clocked its fastest lap of the race on lap 27 in a time of 2:07.6862. This pace helped Dumbrell quickly secure a grip on 10th position which he maintained to the finish.
The race result awarded Dumbrell a further 78 Championship points to bring his total to 267. The team will now make the journey back to Australian shores for the next round, to be contested at Clipsal, Adelaide from March 11. The car has emerged from the Bahrain round without major damage, smoothing the way for preparation and set-up at Clipsal where 2 x 250km races await the team.
