The Bottle-O Racing Team has qualified in 20th position for the start of Race 1 in Bahrain. The qualifying session and earlier practice sessions were made difficult by minor mechanical problems that the team worked hard to address.
Dumbrell was troubled by a rear braking problem in Practice 3 that affected the performance of the car. The team swiftly changed the rotors and spent the remainder of the session adjusting the car to suit the freshly extended track. Dumbrell finished the session in 16th position with a fastest lap of 2:07:4845.
Practice 4 allowed the team to make further changes to the #55 Bottle-O Falcon. During the session the crew sought to improve the balance ratio between the front and rear brakes however the car still hadn’t reached optimum set-up and by the close of the session Dumbrell was running in 22nd position with a fastest lap of 2:08:3233.
The car carried minor issues through to qualifying, hindering Dumbrell’s campaign for a perfect flying lap. A lack of rear grip and a slight imbalance in the brakes inflated the car’s lap times. Dumbrell persisted to make the most of the car’s pace, recording a time of 2:06.8854 on his last lap of the session to qualify in 20th.
Whilst the car will start Race 1 from deep in the field it is still well armed for a move forward. The car’s pace is strong and Dumbrell proved at Abu Dhabi that he can put acceleration to good use. Race 1 offers 37 laps in which to make a climb and Dumbrell will be aiming to make the most of every passing opportunity.
